ENSŌ Shisha: 11 Essential Things to Know
The award-winning all-in-one electric hookah. Open system, no charcoal, full temperature control. Built on a decade of portable heating engineering — refined every year.
01 · Definition
What Is ENSŌ Shisha?
ENSŌ shisha is an all-in-one electric hookah that replaces charcoal with a precision electronic heating element adjustable from 180 to 330 °C in 5° steps. It is an open system — compatible with any shisha tobacco or molasses — using a medical porcelain chamber and a smoked borosilicate glass water base. The 2026 edition won the Red Dot Design Award 2026 (Product Design) and Best Hookah 2025 at Shishamesse Frankfurt.
Traditional hookahs have been enjoyed for centuries, but they come with real friction: managing hot charcoal, uneven, unpredictable heat, ash buildup, and significant setup and cleanup time. ENSŌ removes every one of those variables without removing the ritual itself — the water filtration, the long social session, the flavor.
It was built by the team behind AirVape, which has engineered portable heating technology since 2013. ENSŌ took three years and seven prototypes to perfect, with every unit engineered to the same thermal-precision standards and quality-controlled before shipping. It is not a startup experiment — it is a mature product from people who have spent a decade making precision heating devices.

05 · Technology
How ENSŌ Works
Three systems working together: precision electric heat, an open porcelain chamber, and water-filtered airflow.
Electric Heating Element
The core of ENSŌ is a precision electric heating element with a range of 180–330 °C, adjustable in 5° steps. Unlike charcoal, which fluctuates as it burns and requires constant adjustment, the electric element holds a stable target temperature throughout the session with no intervention needed.
Medical Porcelain Chamber
The heating chamber is made from medical-grade porcelain, which retains and distributes heat evenly across 8–15 g of shisha. Porcelain is flavor-neutral and does not absorb or alter the taste between sessions — what you pack is what you taste.
Water-Filtered Airflow
When you draw through the 1.5 m braided hose, air passes through the heated chamber, picks up vapor, and travels down through the smoked borosilicate glass base — the same water-filtration principle as a traditional hookah. The 15 cm magnetic stainless mouthpiece completes a smooth, cooled delivery.
Open system: ENSŌ works with any shisha tobacco or herbal molasses. Pack 8–15 g into the medical porcelain chamber, set your temperature, and draw. No pods, no brand restrictions, no proprietary consumables.
06 · Getting Started
How to Start an ENSŌ Electric Hookah
Five steps from device to first draw. Tap each step to mark it complete.
Prepare the device
Check that the glass base, porcelain chamber, hose, and mouthpiece are clean and correctly assembled. Verify the Battery Plus is charged — a full charge takes ~1.5 h and lasts 90–120 min. Keep a spare battery charged for back-to-back sessions.
Load the porcelain chamber
Place 8–15 g of your chosen shisha into the medical porcelain chamber. Pack loosely — avoid compressing or overfilling, as this restricts airflow and reduces vapor production. ENSŌ is an open system; any shisha works.
Power on
Press and hold the power button to activate. LED indicators confirm the device is on. The 2026 edition heats significantly faster than the previous model — the element reaches temperature quickly.
Set your temperature
Use the control dial to select a temperature between 180 and 330 °C in 5° steps. Start at 200–220 °C for lighter or fruity shisha; work toward 260–290 °C for denser packs or stronger flavors. Allow a moment for the element to reach the target before drawing.
Enjoy the session
Take slow, steady draws through the 1.5 m braided hose. Water-filtered airflow cools the vapor before it reaches the 15 cm mouthpiece. Avoid rapid chain-puffing in the first few minutes — gradual draws produce the most consistent flavor and cloud. Sessions run 90–120 minutes per charge.

The Engineering Behind ENSŌ
"At ENSŌ, we set out to refine a ritual, not to build a gadget. A Red Dot for design tells us the intention shows — and we'll keep refining it, every year."
— Roland Szegi, Founder, ENSŌ
ENSŌ is the result of applying a decade of portable heating engineering to a category that had not changed meaningfully in decades. AirVape, the team behind ENSŌ, has built and refined personal heating devices since 2013. That engineering maturity is what separates ENSŌ from the wave of electric hookah devices that have entered the market over the past two years — built to a thermal-precision standard, not assembled to a price point.
Development took three years and seven prototypes to get right. The Red Dot jury recognizes ENSŌ on design alone — independent of sales figures or market position. That recognition, alongside Best Hookah 2025 at Shishamesse Frankfurt, reflects work done before launch, not after. A single reel reached 3 million views; 20M+ cumulative across 50+ creators in 30 markets. For a category that rarely goes viral, ENSŌ became genuinely talked-about.
